You parked at Port Everglades and came back to a silent EV. That’s a Dania Beach problem as much as an empty pack on I-95. The city sits between the port, FLL, and the beach. A car that sat a week often won’t wake. The high-voltage pack can still hold plenty. The 12-volt battery is the one that quit in the heat.
Why Dania Beach calls are travel leftovers
Dania Beach covers 7.835 square miles in Broward County. It’s wedged between FLL, Port Everglades, and the beach. The Census 2024 estimate is 33,076 people, and ACS 2019-2023 counted 31,739. The map matters more than the headcount. Downtown Dania, Dania Pointe, the I-595 corridor, and the beach share that squeeze. Neighbors are Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Davie, and Hallandale Beach. A stall here sits next to a cruise port and an airport edge. You’re not in a quiet inland loop.
Corridors through town include I-95, US-1, A1A, and I-595. Griffin Road, Stirling Road, and Dania Beach Boulevard carry the surface traffic. Florida Power and Light serves the city. FPL EVolution is the utility’s public charging brand. A brand name isn’t a pin on your block. Confirm a working plug on the site you can actually reach.
Port Everglades parking and the 12-volt
Port Everglades cruise parking sits immediately north of Dania Beach. The port lists the Heron and Palm garages, plus surface lots. Combined capacity is over 5,500 vehicles. The parking page lists no EV charging. That comes from porteverglades.net, read 2026-09-18. It isn’t a claim about every street in town.
You don’t need an empty traction pack for this to strand you. A car left for a week keeps modules alive on the 12-volt battery. South Florida heat ages that battery fast. Battery University notes that every roughly 15F rise halves lead-acid life. Heat damage doesn’t reverse, and this climate doesn’t let up. A quiet car after a cruise is often a 12-volt job. It isn’t always an empty pack. Almost nobody standing in that garage knows the difference.
If the dash is dark, start with the 12-volt. Handles that don’t present and an app that won’t connect point the same way. A Tesla 12V jump on site is often the whole rescue. The same drain shows up after airport parking. That’s why there’s a separate note on Tesla 12V failure after parking.
The airport edge, still unconfirmed
FLL sits immediately north with the port. Dania Beach takes the spillover when a trip ends and the car won’t start. Garage names and on-site charging at FLL couldn’t be confirmed for this page. The airport site returned an error when it was checked. Don’t assume a plug is waiting in long-term parking. Check FLL’s own parking pages before you leave the car. Ask garage staff if a plug is actually in service.
It’s easy to mix airports. Fort Lauderdale Executive is FXE. North Perry is HWO, in Pembroke Pines. Miami International is a different county. For a stall in town, stay with Dania. Give the operator a cross street on Griffin, Stirling, or Dania Beach Boulevard. Name the garage only if you’re still on port or airport property.
Beach days, Dania Pointe, and dwell drain
Not every call is a week in a garage. The beach and Dania Pointe add dwell time. So do the Dania Beach Casino and the IGFA Fishing Hall of Fame. You had range to arrive. The air conditioner ran while you sat. Recurrent Auto studied about 30,000 EVs. It found about 5% range loss at 90F. At 100F the loss was about 17 to 18%. Cooling a hot cabin can take 3 to 5 kW at first. Holding it cool takes about 1 kW. AAA’s 2019 test found about a 17% range drop at 95F with AC on. None of those figures are Tesla’s. They describe heat, not hills.
Dania Beach is flat coastal ground. Broward’s high natural point is Pine Island Ridge at about 29 feet. That ridge isn’t Dania Beach. Range on these streets is climate load. Summer afternoons bring thunderstorms, roughly 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Low-lying streets flood on king tides and heavy rain. King tides run mainly September through November. Salt-laden humid air is hard on a 12-volt battery. An EV that sat a week near the beach may not wake. It’s the same 12-volt pattern as the port lot.
If you’re at Dania Pointe with a thin pack, stop. Don’t roll the last percent hunting an unconfirmed plug. Downtown Dania is the same advice. Park somewhere legal and call for mobile EV charging. The operator quotes you before any cable goes in. You pay that operator directly.
If you stop on I-95 or I-595
A disabled EV on the interstate is a safety problem first. Florida Statute 316.194 says leave the main-traveled part where practicable. You need room for passing traffic and a clear view from 200 feet each way. Statute 316.194(2) exempts a genuinely disabled vehicle that can’t practicably be moved off the road. That’s the law, not a courtesy.
Florida’s Road Ranger Service Patrol is free on the highway system FDOT lists. Dial *FHP, which is *347 on a mobile phone. Rangers jump-start vehicles, change flats, and handle minor repairs. They also tow a disabled vehicle from the travel lanes to a safe spot. District 4 covers Broward. It patrols I-95 from the Miami-Dade line north. It also covers portions of I-595 from SR-7 to Port Everglades. No Road Ranger page we read mentions EV charging. They can still jump a 12-volt or move you off a travel lane. A Level 2 charge is what the operators we connect you with bring.
595 Express is FDOT-owned. It’s all-electronic, SunPass or toll-by-plate, no cash. FDOT doesn’t publish a disabled-vehicle rule unique to those express lanes. Road Rangers still patrol the corridor. Check FL511 for incidents. Don’t sit in a live lane hoping traffic parts. If you can roll to Griffin Road, Stirling Road, or US-1, do that. A shoulder on I-95 is a worse wait than a lot in downtown Dania.
Heat, floodwater, and when not to charge
Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Broward evacuations use Plan A for Category 1-2 storms, east of the Intracoastal. Plan B is Category 3 and up, east of US-1. Dania Beach sits in that coastal band. FPL tells EV owners to keep the pack between 50 and 80% in season. Unplug during the storm. Don’t charge or drive a flood-exposed EV until it’s inspected. NHTSA warns residual salt in a flooded lithium battery can short later. A flood-exposed EV shouldn’t sit within 50 feet of a structure. About 36 EVs flooded by Hurricane Ian in 2022 later caught fire. That’s an official warning. If the car sat in saltwater on a king-tide street, you need an inspection. Don’t ask for a top-up first.
Older housing and a home plug you may lack
About 59.6% of Dania Beach housing was built before 1980. That’s Census ACS 2019-2023. Older panels and apartment stock are why a home Level 2 isn’t a given. FPL EVolution Home is the utility’s residential install-and-maintain program. Confirm current terms with FPL. A condo or a pre-1980 rental often leaves you on public plugs and parking lots. That’s when EV roadside assistance is the plan for tonight. You don’t control the panel in a rental.
What a mobile rescue adds versus a wrecker
Charge Pro MIA is a referral line. It matches you with independent local mobile rescue operators. It doesn’t run trucks, employ technicians, or set the price. The operator quotes you before starting and bills you directly. The pros we connect you with are licensed and insured.
What they bring is a 240-volt Level 2 source to the car. Tesla gets a native NACS plug. Other EVs get CCS or J1772 through an adapter. Typical add is 10 to 20 miles of range. That takes 15 to 30 minutes of charging. That’s charging time, not an arrival clock. They can also jump or replace a dead 12-volt on site. Tesla and every major EV brand are in scope.
A wrecker is a different job. Florida Statute 715.07 covers tows from private property. In a county this size, storage must sit within a 10-mile radius. The yard must release the vehicle within one hour of request. If you appear before it’s fully removed, the operator must stop and return it. Broward caps nonconsent rates under Code Section 20-176.22. The current dollar schedule couldn’t be loaded. Confirm the posted rate with the yard before you pay. Loading a dead EV onto a flatbed is its own risk. No power makes Neutral and hold harder. For an empty pack or a 12-volt, stay on site if you can. A charge or jump usually beats a tow to a charger you haven’t picked.
Compare that with Hollywood EV roadside assistance, the next city south. Or with Fort Lauderdale EV rescue just north of the port.
If the car is silent after Port Everglades, call. Call after time at FLL or a Dania Pointe afternoon too. If you’re on an I-95 shoulder, get off the travel lane, then call. Charge Pro MIA serves Dania Beach and the rest of South Florida. For the local page, start at EV charging in Dania Beach. Call (786) 963-2995. An independent operator quotes the job before any work starts.
