Searchers asking how much is a Tesla battery usually have a silent car. In South Florida heat, that’s almost always the 12-volt. The traction pack is a VIN-specific quote from Tesla or a shop. Charge Pro MIA doesn’t publish a replacement figure. Florida has no state EV rebate that would offset that bill.
Two batteries, two different bills
A Tesla runs a small 12-volt that wakes the car. It also carries a high-voltage pack under the floor. The 12-volt powers locks, the screen, and the contactors. The pack stores the miles you actually drive. When both go quiet, owners assume the expensive one failed.
After a week in MIA’s Dolphin or Flamingo garage, the 12-volt usually dies. The floor pack is often still holding charge. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens does the same sit after a game. A cruise week at PortMiami is the same drain. Start with Tesla 12V failure after parking: why the car looks totally dead. Tesla battery dead: is it the 12V or the high-voltage pack is the split.
A jump or an on-site 12-volt swap is what mobile operators handle. A pack swap is a lift job at Tesla or a qualified EV shop.
Heat ages the 12-volt first
South Florida is flat, so hills don’t tax the pack. Miami-Dade’s high point is the Atlantic Coastal Ridge, at roughly 23 to 24 feet. Broward’s high point is Pine Island Ridge, at about 29 feet. Heat, air conditioning, and dwell set the wear.
NWS Miami’s 1991-2020 normals put July and August average highs at 91F. A normal year sees about 64 days at or above 90F. Battery University notes that every roughly 15F rise halves lead-acid life. A lead-acid 12-volt ages about twice as fast at 93F as at 77F. It ages about four times as fast at 111F.
Coastal parking in Miami Beach, Surfside, and Sunny Isles Beach stays hot from above. Inland streets in Hialeah and Hollywood still cook a 12-volt on a driveway. North Miami housing is 82.7% pre-1980, and Miami Springs is 89.5%. Those older buildings often can’t take a home Level 2. The pack still lives in that heat. How long Tesla batteries last, and what heat does here is the wear piece.
Florida doesn’t write a pack rebate
Owners hunt a rebate when they hear battery replacement. The U.S. DOE Alternative Fuels Data Center lists Florida’s EV laws. That summary lists no state EV purchase rebate or tax credit. No consumer rebate for a traction-pack swap turned up there either. Confirm live programs on the AFDC Florida laws page before you budget.
Miami-Dade received a federal grant for public charging ports. That grant doesn’t attach a consumer rebate or fee waiver for residents. No Broward consumer rebate program turned up in the sources used here. FPL EVolution Home is an install-and-maintain program, not a pack rebate. FPL serves essentially all of Miami-Dade and all of Broward. A pack bill stays between you, a shop, Tesla, and maybe an insurer.
Warranty is coverage, not a price
Tesla’s Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty is the document that matters. The captured New Vehicle Limited Warranty is effective 2025-06-05. Model S and Model X coverage is 8 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. It requires a minimum 70% battery capacity retention. Model 3 and Model Y Standard or Standard Range Plus: 8 years or 100,000 miles. Model 3 and Model Y Long Range or Performance: 8 years or 120,000 miles. VIN-specific terms in the Tesla app Specs and Warranty still control. That PDF doesn’t cover Cybertruck.
Warranty covers defects and capacity loss under those terms. It doesn’t cover crash damage. It doesn’t cover a pack that sat in floodwater. Tesla battery warranty: what it covers when heat wears the pack walks the published terms. Tesla Model 3 pack replacement: warranty, heat, and your real options covers that model.
A silent car after sitting is usually the 12-volt. A sudden, large range collapse is a service visit.
When the pack is actually the problem
Collision and water are the two damage paths. King tides run mainly September through November. They hit Miami Beach, Hollywood, and Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Isles. Hurricane season is June 1 to November 30. NHTSA warns residual salt in a flooded lithium battery can short later. About 36 EVs flooded by Hurricane Ian in 2022 later caught fire. A flood-exposed EV shouldn’t be driven or charged until it’s inspected. Don’t park it within 50 feet of a structure.
Ask your insurer and Tesla which policy applies after a crash or a flood. Get Tesla or a qualified EV shop to inspect before anyone assumes a full swap. Whether a module can be repaired is a shop diagnosis. A roadside operator isn’t equipped to open the pack.
If you’re disabled on a highway outside a municipality, Florida Statute 316.194 applies. Leave the car off the traveled part where practicable. Road Rangers, reached at *FHP (*347), can jump a 12-volt. They don’t bring a Level 2 charge.
A mobile rescue isn’t a pack quote
Charge Pro MIA is a referral line. We match stranded Tesla drivers with independent local operators. We don’t hold a trade license, and we don’t do the work. We don’t set prices. The operator quotes you before starting and bills you directly.
The pros we send bring a 240V Level 2 source to the car. They use a native NACS plug, or a CCS or J1772 adapter. They typically add 10 to 20 miles in 15 to 30 minutes of charging. That’s charging time, never an arrival time. They can jump or replace a dead 12-volt on site.
If the screen is dark and the doors won’t wake, start with the 12-volt. Tesla 12V replacement when South Florida heat keeps killing it is that repair. Tesla 12V battery jump is the roadside path.
The only pack number that matters is a quote on your VIN. Ask Tesla service or a qualified independent EV shop.
If the car won’t wake and you’re unsure which battery failed, call (786) 963-2995. Tell the operator whether the app still shows pack charge.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a Tesla battery if the pack is out of warranty?
Charge Pro MIA doesn’t publish a pack replacement figure. Tesla service or a qualified EV shop quotes your VIN. Florida has no state rebate that would offset that bill.
Does Florida help pay for a Tesla pack swap?
The DOE AFDC Florida laws summary lists no state EV purchase rebate or tax credit. No consumer pack rebate turned up in that check. Confirm current programs on the AFDC page.
How do I tell a dead 12V from a failed pack?
If the app still shows range after hot parking, it’s usually the 12-volt. A sudden, large range collapse is a shop diagnosis. Don’t guess on the shoulder.
