A Weston search for battery backup is usually about the house. You’re on newer FPL service in some of Broward’s newest housing. You want lights, a fridge, and AC when the grid dies. That’s a wall unit, a permit, and an electrician. The same phrase also covers a dead EV in the driveway. It also covers a low pack on the last westbound miles before Alligator Alley.

What that search usually means in Weston

Weston sits in western Broward, inland against the Everglades conservation edge. ACS 2019-2023 counted 67,952 residents, and the 2024 estimate is 70,674. ZIPs are 33326, 33327, 33331, and 33332.

Only 7.0 percent of housing here was built before 1980. That’s some of the newest stock in the two-county metro. Weston Hills, Savanna, Windmill Ranch, Bonaventure, and the Town Center are new stock. A garage charger is often a real option. A whole-house battery is a heavier, separate job. It still starts with a panel that can take it.

Florida Power and Light serves Weston. FPL EVolution Home is the utility’s residential Level 2 install-and-maintain program. Don’t mix that up with a home battery. One puts 240 volts on a car. The other stores power for circuits in the house. FPL also publishes a residential time-of-use rate for home charging. Confirm the current rate with FPL before you enroll.

Storm nights at the Everglades edge

Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. Broward’s Plan A covers Category 1 and 2 storms east of the Intracoastal. Plan B covers Category 3 and higher east of US-1. Weston isn’t that coastal strip. It’s west of Sunrise and Davie, and north of Pembroke Pines and Southwest Ranches.

The Weston-specific storm problem is the road out. Regional evacuation routes include I-95, Florida’s Turnpike, and I-75. I-75 at Weston is where the suburbs stop. Alligator Alley starts there. A house battery is about a dark kitchen in Savanna. The car is about not rolling west already low.

FPL tells EV owners to keep the pack between 50 and 80 percent through the season. Unplug during the storm. Don’t charge or drive a flood-exposed EV until it’s inspected. NHTSA warns leftover salt in a flooded lithium pack can short days or weeks later. About 36 EVs flooded by Hurricane Ian in 2022 later caught fire. A flood-exposed EV shouldn’t sit within 50 feet of a structure until it’s checked.

FPL deploys mobile EV charging trailers before planned outages and during storms. The Florida Division of Emergency Management has deployed temporary EV chargers along the I-75 evacuation corridor. Those are public storm assets. They’re not Charge Pro MIA trucks, and we own no fleet.

Home batteries are a trade, and we don’t do it

A home battery stores electricity from the grid, from solar, or from both. When FPL drops, it can carry lights, a fridge, or chosen circuits. How much it carries depends on size and wiring. Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, and Generac are the names people shop. We don’t sell them.

Installation ties into the main panel. It’s high-voltage work. It needs a licensed electrical contractor and a Broward permit. Charge Pro MIA is a referral line for stranded EV drivers. We match you with independent local mobile rescue operators. We hold no contractor license. We don’t employ technicians. We don’t pull house-battery permits on Royal Palm Boulevard or Weston Road.

If a house battery is what you meant, call an electrician who does residential storage. Ask for their Florida electrical contractor license before anyone opens the panel. This research pass didn’t turn up one stable public lookup page we could cite. The state issues the license. Broward County reviews the building permit.

A wall battery and a truck charge aren’t the same job. Read mobile EV charging vs home battery backup after a storm. Homestead’s mix of municipal power and older housing is a different night. See when Homestead power is out, can your EV run the house. Weston’s story is newer homes and the Alley.

The car has two batteries of its own

Your EV’s traction pack moves the wheels. Heat, AC, and dwell cut range here. South Florida is flat, so range is heat and AC, not hills. Recurrent Auto’s study of about 30,000 EVs found about 5 percent range loss at 90F. The same study found about 17 to 18 percent at 100F. AAA’s 2019 SAE-standard test used 95F with the AC on. It found about a 17 percent range drop. NWS Miami 1991-2020 normals put July and August average highs at 91F.

A run from the Town Center to Cleveland Clinic Weston can look easy. That’s on a cool morning. The same loop in the August storm window, usually 2pm to 6pm, spends pack on AC.

The 12-volt is the other battery. It boots computers, latches doors, and lets the high-voltage system wake. South Florida heat shortens lead-acid life. Battery University notes that every roughly 15F rise halves life. Heat damage doesn’t reverse. A car that sat through a two-day outage, then won’t unlock, is often that small battery. Operators in the network jump or replace a dead 12V on site. They handle Tesla and every major EV brand. If the dash is dark, start there before you assume the pack is empty.

When battery backup means get the car moving

Picture a driveway in Windmill Ranch after FPL cuts out. The wall charger is dead with the house. The EV is low because overnight charging never happened. A house battery sized for that circuit might’ve kept the charger up. Most homes won’t have that. What you need tonight is range to a working plug.

That’s mobile EV charging. An operator brings a 240-volt Level 2 source to the car. Teslas get a native NACS plug. Other EVs get a CCS or J1772 adapter. Operators typically add 10 to 20 miles of range in 15 to 30 minutes of charging. That’s time on the plug. It isn’t an arrival window. The operator quotes you before work starts and bills you directly. Charge Pro MIA doesn’t set the price.

The same call fits a stall on Royal Palm or a garage at the Town Center. It also fits the I-595 approach after an errand. Sunrise sits east, and Southwest Ranches is next door. Davie and Pembroke Pines sit south and southeast. The risk that isn’t close is west. Don’t treat I-75 westbound like another suburban connector. For the local sequence, use Weston EV roadside help before you reach the empty Alley.

Alligator Alley is why Weston isn’t like east Broward

From Weston, I-75 becomes Alligator Alley, the long Everglades crossing toward Naples. Naples and the Gulf aren’t in this service area. This town’s flagship question is simple. It’s the last real place to sort the car before that westbound stretch. Don’t enter I-75 westbound already low.

If you stall on a limited-access road, start with Florida Statute 316.194. Leave the vehicle off the main-traveled part where practicable. Leave room for passing traffic. Keep a clear view from 200 feet each way. A genuinely disabled vehicle that can’t practicably be moved is exempt under 316.194(2). Dial *FHP (*347) from your phone. That reaches Florida Highway Patrol and the Road Ranger Service Patrol.

Road Rangers jump-start vehicles, make minor repairs, and change flats. They tow a disabled vehicle off the travel lanes to a safe spot, free of charge. Their published materials don’t mention electric vehicles or EV charging. They can still jump a 12-volt or move you off a travel lane. They don’t bring a Level 2 EV charge. That’s the gap independent operators fill.

FDOT District 4 covers Broward. It patrols I-75 from the Miami-Dade line to mile marker 50. It also covers portions of I-595. The Sawgrass Expressway, SR-869, is run by Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. Those roads are all-electronic, SunPass or toll-by-plate. FL511.com is FDOT’s official traffic feed, in English and Spanish. See empty on Alligator Alley: what to do when the towns fall away.

What we are, and what we aren’t

Charge Pro MIA doesn’t install home backup. We don’t wire solar. We don’t maintain FPL EVolution Home hardware. The operators we connect you with run mobile EV rescue. They bring charge to a stranded car. They jump or replace a 12-volt. They get you enough range to move. See how a mobile EV charging truck gets you enough range to move.

New Weston stock means more home plugs. More home plugs means the painful calls are the ones away from the garage. That’s I-75, the Sawgrass, US-27 up the Everglades edge, and the Alley toll approach. City-level notes sit on the Weston EV charging page.

If the house is dark, call an electrician

Sort the search before you sort the truck. A Powerwall-style system is a licensed electrical project. An empty or silent EV is a roadside job. Don’t wait on a house-battery sales visit.

Tell whoever you call whether the dash lights up. A live dash and a zero pack wants a charge. No dash and a locked car wants the 12-volt checked first.

When the car is the battery you need backed up, call (786) 963-2995. You’ll get a quote from the operator who’d actually do the work.
